Matt Ocko #100 Co-founder and co-managing partner, DCVC Matt Ocko said he started programming at age 7 and founded his first company in 1981, at age 13. “I grew up reading comic books and science fiction,” he said at a talk for Stanford University. “I did dream of making the world a better place.” In 2010, Ocko co-founded DCVC to invest in tech companies, including those related to climate tech, fintech that change the nature of work, and life sciences, such as the biotechnology company AbCellera, which went public at the end of 2020. He also saw a number of other portfolio companies exit last year, including Matterport, which went public through a SPAC for $3 billion. He said he advised early-stage startups in deep tech “to adapt and lead successfully throughout the company journey.” But, his DCVC bio says, he still writes code and builds robots with his kids.
