Amish Jani #91 Founder and partner, FirstMark Amish Jani says that when he meets with early-stage founders, he looks to see that they’ve experienced the need for the startup’s service. “The best founders have deeply felt the pain they are trying to solve, and it comes across very clearly,” he said. Jani has helped dozens of software companies, including Shopify and Frame.io, develop from early startups to businesses. He spends a lot of time helping his companies recruit, he says, but his favorite part of the job is helping find product-market fit. “That raw energy is hard to bottle, and coming out of the other side successfully is thrilling,” he said. He was an early investor at Shopify, which went public in 2015, and Conductor, a content-analytics company that WeWork acquired in 2018.
