Josh Hannah #97 General partner, Matrix Partners Josh Hannah knows what it takes to start a business: He built his first, Betfair, a sports-betting marketplace, in 1999. With the money he made from Betfair, he bought eHow, an online how-to guide, which he sold to Demand Media in 2006. Hannah invests in consumer software, including areas of decentralized finance, education, Web3 marketplaces, and crypto. Some of his recent successes include the neurosciences startup Halo, which Flow acquired for an undisclosed sum in February 2021; Canva’s $40 billion valuation; and Quora’s $2 billion valuation. Hannah said he liked to work with truth-seeking founders: “A founder who is just as happy to bring you bad news at the board meeting as good news because it’s a step on the path to figuring out the right answer,” he told Harry Stebbings on “The Twenty Minute VC” podcast.
