As the number of physical keys on the surface of the device is limited, it uses softkeys to bypass this limitation. A softkey is a hardware key located near the screen, with its label visible on the edge of the display. The function of the key, such as opening a menu, and its label change depend on the current state of the device. Figure 6-5 shows two softkeys below the display. In addition to mobile devices, softkeys are ubiquitously found in ATMs around the world. Figure 6-5 also shows an example of a keypad for text input.
