There are some social features included, but without active spotters the service would be completely useless. This notion of sup- porting a growing community and sharing content makes it the fi nal twist to the spotting. My fi nest moment as a spotter was when one of the authors of this book came back from a trip to Lapland, saying: “I tried to spot there, but someone named Jylppy had already spotted all cells.” I don’t own the cells in any way, but I have left my marks for others to spot. Allowing anyone to query one’s current location is not considered a viable option, requiring that some kind of control mechanisms and access rights schemes are incorporated. Defi ning who can access your current location, with what accuracy, where, and at what time of the day, either results in huge challenges is developing a simple enough user interface, or alternatively a system that effectively prevents its use alto- gether. Furthermore, by collecting and combining location information – or their absence, for that matter – easily results in a “robber’s heaven” (the ability to check whether the inhabitants of the target are at home, and where the neighbours are). There are several side-effects to allow- ing location tracking, all of which undoubtedly are not discovered until such a system is used by millions.
