Prologue xxiii DAVE, 56, PLUMBER Dave, a professional plumber, runs a small garage company with two other guys. They are long-time professionals and have become close friends over the years. They focus on the job, trusting all accounting, invoicing, and other offi ce activities to Janet, who runs an accountancy company. Most of their fi les are kept in paper form at the back of their garage. Dave is not a gadget freak, and avoids computers whenever possible. However, he has recently switched to a more modern mobile phone that can access Internet betting sites. Obviously he has had a mobile phone for years, as much of their business involves fi xing leaks in the middle of some other task. Clients’ calls must be taken a.s.a.p., although these days the business is so good that he has to say “No” a little too often. After work, Dave is in no hurry to get home and watch the tube with his nagging wife, so he often goes with the guys to the local pub for a few pints and darts. The other guys are into football, but Dave follows the equestrian scene. He frequently bets on horses and has decades of experience on evaluating the odds. In fact, that was a good source of income for his family when business was poor.
