132 You Have a Book in You Find a Pitch Partner Most writers do not speak about their work easily. In the movie business, it is the producer’s job to pitch the writ- er’s work or idea to a production company or network, not the writer’s. 吀栀e writer usually attends the pitch meet- ing but does not say much. Why? Writers, by nature, are mostly introverts. (Zig Ziglar, an introvert, claimed that he trained himself to become an extrovert on stage only.) 吀栀ey do not summon much of the natural enthusiasm that comes so easily for extroverts. If that sounds like you, you need to 昀椀nd a pitch part- ner. (In a perfect world, this person is not your mother.) Your pitch partner is someone who loves your book and raves about you. Now it the time to throw your arm around that person and say, “Hey, how would you like to talk to so- and- so for me?” And you make it worth their while to get out there and toot your horn. Your pitch partner might be present at meetings with you, throw you a party, or write about you on their Face- book pages or the myriad of social media. 吀栀ey can also take you to social mixers where they will introduce you and your work to people that need to know who you are because they could, in some way, advance your career. 吀栀e key is to 昀椀nd someone for whom this comes com- pletely naturally. 吀栀ey already love your work, are moti- vated to let the world know how brilliant you are, and
