Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs announced several new products in a keynote address at a company event in San Francisco, making his first appearance at an Apple event in nearly a year.

The very first Apple Store opened its doors on May 19, 2001, at the Tysons Corner Center shopping mall in McLean, Virginia, near Washington D.C.

Jobs' speech followed three stories from his life: one, in which he tells an anecdote about dropping out of college; another, about the lessons he learned from being fired by Apple in 1985; and lastly, his reflections on death.

During that year's Macworld keynote, Jobs teased that Apple was about “to reinvent the phone” with the iPhone's announcement and release.

On July 7, 1998, a keynote event was held at Macworld Expo New York in which Steve Jobs recapped the survival of Apple and moving on from profitability to product strategy. Mac OS 8.5 was demonstrated.

In 1983, Jobs attended the International Design Conference in Aspen. During it, he gave a speech that predicted things like accessing electronic mail from the palm of your hand.
