Twenty-eightpercentofcovered workersareenrolledinahigh-deductibleplanwithasavingsoption(HDHP/SO),14%inanHMO,10%inaPOSplan,and <1%inaconventional(alsoknownasanindemnity)plan[FigureD].Overthelastfiveyears,enrollmentinPPOshasfallen by8percentagepointswhileenrollmentinHDHP/SOshasincreasedby9percentagepoints. EMPLOYEECOSTSHARING Mostcoveredworkersmustpayashareofthecostwhentheyusehealthcareservices. Eighty-onepercentofcoveredworkers haveageneralannualdeductibleforsinglecoveragethatmustbemetbeforemostservicesarepaidforbytheplan[Figure E]. Even workers withoutageneralannualdeductibleoftenfaceothertypesofcostsharingwhentheyuseservices,suchas copaymentsorcoinsuranceforofficevisitsandhospitalizations. Amongcoveredworkerswithageneralannualdeductible,theaveragedeductibleamountforsinglecoverageis$1,505, similar to the average deductible last year ($1,478). The average deductible for covered workers is higher in small firms than in large firms($2,120vs. $1,276).
