As a cofounder of Cultivation Capital in Greenville, he only backs founders of software companies located outside the Bay Area. Prior to his investing career, Holekamp founded Foot Healers, a podiatrist’s office meets retail store, in St. Louis. “I naively believed that I would be running it for the rest of my career,” he told Washington University in St. Louis. “An unexpected buyout offer in 2007 changed those plans.” This year, Cultivation Capital scored a win with the St. Louis startup TopOpps, which does AI forecasting, when Xactly, a firm in San Jose, California, acquired it.
