In contrast to more conventional plans, PTO does not distinguish between "sick days" and "vacation days." Employees can use their PTO balance for both of those things as well as other things. Each pay period, employers credit an employee's hours. PTO is typically accrued or earned over the course of the year at work. Additionally, you accrue more time the longer you work for ABC Company. The total annual amount of paid time off you are eligible to accrue each year, as well as how it is prorated and credited to your PTO bank, are all explained in your employer's PTO policy.
