WELCOME TO east PRoVIDence East Providence is a city rooted in culture. This area is part of the ancestral seat of the Pokanoket Nation called Sowams (the South Country) and the first settlement of Roger Williams in the Phillipsdale section at Omega Pond along the Seekonk River. The historic 1895 Looff Carousel is all that remains of the famous Crescent park amusement park in Riverside, once promoted as "The Coney Island of New England." The restored carousel is open to the public from spring through fall and still provides an opportunity to catch the brass ring. Across the street from the carousel are stupendous views of Narragansett Bay at rose Larisa park.
