Chapter 7: Application Outlook In the preceding two chapters, we provided an insight into the internal workings of reference software architecture for managing personal content, describing the essential technical features implied by identi- fi ed user needs and requirements, and the limitations imposed by existing technology. Furthermore, we presented a similar approach to content management user interfaces. We showed the essential ele- ments for designing usable interfaces for experiencing mobile personal content, while dealing with the inherent restricting features of small devices – limited input and output capabilities. Now we focus on the way the solutions are linked and how they are offered to users. Still missing from our discussion, from a traditional software stack point of view, are applications. This is the software that exploits services provided by the platform, brings in the domain logic for dealing with related information, and applies user interface design principles to implement a user interface, thus making the functionality Personal Content Experience: Managing Digital Life in the Mobile Age J.
