Chapter 6: User Interfaces for Mobile Media 213 As discussed in Chapter 2, the gaps in life phenomenon is especially suitable for micromovies. The small viewing area and potentially uncomfortable viewing environment do not ruin the experience since the required time is only minutes at most. Grass-root level participation – the ability to contribute to the content creation with built-in video recorders in mobile phones – has further boosted the trend. 6.3 Interfaces for Mobile Media Devices In the preceding section, we have discussed the interactive system and its user. Furthermore, we have examined some behavioural patterns and changes related to interacting with personal content. Now we will focus on the interface that sits between the system and the user, medi- ating the communications in both directions. It is the interface that fi nally determines how the interaction with the actual content takes place, and how well it supports observed behavioural patterns and user habits. Typically, desktop computers are used in an indoor environment; mobile devices, on the contrary, are frequently used in situations where operating the device is not the primary task being performed.
