2021 ESG Report Healthy Community The Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Our approach to addressing the root causes of health disparities is at the heart of the Healthiest Cities and Counties Challenge, a project of the American Public Health Association (APHA) with support from the Aetna Foundation. In partnership with the National Association of Counties and Healthy Places by Design, APHA is working to reduce disparities in chronic disease by improving access to food and health services in 20 communities across 11 states. Since the start of the $2 million initiative in July 2020, Challenge project teams have worked to engage multisector partners by drawing clear connections between the barriers created by local conditions and the individual needs of community members.
